Homeschool Hurrah!

Here's a note of encouragement for those of you who wonder if it's worth it to homeschool through high school. Below is an excerpt from a note I just sent to a dear friend and thought that maybe it would encourage those of you who are wondering if you should continue homeschooling through high school.

...As for MSU, Lowell is loving every minute of it. If I had any encouragement for HS'ing moms who wonder if they should homeschool through high school, this in itself has made it worth it. Since he didn't get jaded [toward learning] after a high school experience, whether it be 1 or 4 years, he loves the whole college experience. I'm not saying homeschooling him his high school years was a piece of cake, but getting him accepted to MSU was enough of a "feather in my cap" considering I'm a college drop-out...

I'm coming to the realization that college is a sort of "postscript" for the high school years for several of my son's friends. Especially here, since our university boasts small class size (which is great, don't get me wrong) but these students have shared that not much has changed for them. On the contrary, my son is thrilled with everything about it: So much of it is new to him that had become commonplace, maybe a little old-hat for others. Studying on his own or with friends, making plans for lunch, joining the debate club and Young Republicans...it's all been a thrill a minute.

So, despite all my concerns over lackluster assignments, projects that weren't completed, areas of study that we never got around to, the best thing was simply waiting to allow our "arrow" to fly.
